Enigmatis: The Ghosts Of Maple Creek Review

Enigmatis: The Ghosts Of Maple Creek is a puzzle based point and click game developed and published by Artifex Mundi ‘Imagine: you wake up in the evening after a powerful storm on a road in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, with partial short-term memory loss. Thrilling shivers down your spine remind you of dramatic events that took place just before, yet which you have no memory of…….Will you dare to solve the ages-old mystery of Maple Creek?’

The gameplay for Enigmatis is a simple point and click using your left thumb stick and A button, along with it’s artistic graphics, relaxing music which suits the genre and detective based storyline this makes for a well put together game, when you first start this game you’ll be trying to make sense of whats happened and whats currently going on in Maple Creek, with the help of your evidence wall you manage to piece together what has happened in the past and the present.

Following clues and solving puzzles to find new evidence and items of use in the storyline, some of the puzzles are similar to Artifex Mundi’s previously released Xbox One title: Clockwork Tales of Glass and Ink you shall come across jigsaw like puzzles fitting images together in the correct place or rebuilding something from broken parts, hidden object puzzles where you have to find all of the items in an area which is cluttered and also many other custom puzzles, sometimes a pen and paper may help, just keep that as a hint for later in the game!

Without diving too deep and giving too much away about the story you’re a detective searching for clues on missing girls in Maple Creek from the past and present, along your journey you make some startling discovery’s and have to piece your memory back together! You can play this on 2 difficulty levels normal and expert each offers different ways you will have to play the game for example when playing on normal and undertaking a hidden object puzzle you can simply spam your a button whilst moving across the area until you find all of the items whereas on expert you get so many mistake penalties to make so you’ll have to take your time so you don’t fail said puzzle!

Once you complete the ghost of maple creek you get an additional campaign called “the ghost of the past” both campaigns can be completed in a few hours, they offer similar puzzles with the same difficulty options, you can use your hints to help you along the way by pressing up on the D pad, in expert mode this can help jog your memory if it’s your second play-through although will take 60 seconds to regenerate unlike 30 seconds on normal mode, with the use of this and your evidence wall you can easily work your way through what has happened in maple creek and solve the case!
