Following the events of the campaign in Overcooked! 2, the Onion King has found himself in some hot water for using the necro-nomnom-icron and raising the Unbread that has ultimately lead to his being exiled to a seemingly resort like island far far away. If he wants to return home the Onion King is going to have to collect some really superb recipes to prove his worth. Naturally, he places this on your shoulders and so your team of plucky chefs set out to scour the island, tackling the challenges of cooking in a beachy resort setting while being tackled with rising tides and learning to make smoothies and BBQ kabobs.
Overcooked! 2 will have players criss crossing the island over the course of three new chapters with four levels each (along with two new secret Kevin levels) as they master the new recipes in a timely fashion. In addition to these new recipes players will be reunited with some of familiar food items from the base game but with a unique island twist, such as hamburgers with two meat patties and pineapple as opposed to lettuce and tomato. Sticking with the gameplay mechanics from Overcooked that we all known and love, the DLC puts up to four players in a maze like kitchen with a variety of unpredictable elements and forces them to combine and prepare ingredients to create dishes for customers. These kitchens may be poolside with randomly shifting countertops that can limit access to cutting boards and serving stations, or right on the beach where a sudden rising tide can wash away all of your efforts and restructure your workspace.
The constantly shifting workstations mean that getting to a sink to wash your dishes may not always be a viable option, so to combat this Ghost Town has introduced a handy new tool, the water pistol, to Overcooked! 2. Players may want to be careful where they aim, however, as the water pistol can knock your teammates off the board if they cross your path. It may not be a good idea to spray your friends out of bounds during coop or arcade mode, but this ability to wash away your foes can be a game changer during Overcooked! 2’s versus mode. It’s also fairly amusing, at least until someone gets mad that they’re always being sprayed constantly.
Overcooked! 2’s Surf n Turf DLC does see an uptick in difficulty over the base game, but a good team of two working together and communicating effectively can fully complete the game by earning three stars on every level, including the super secretive Kevin levels that require extra goals to unlock. That said, scores set for the new fourth star in New Game+ mode were voted on by the community, and are a shockingly steep incline in difficulty. Attaining that fourth star is nothing short of impossible without a full team of four working together.
